How A Boot Camp For Kids Can Be A Great Idea, If You Get The Choice Of Camp Right
A boot camp for kids can be a very useful and effective way of putting their lives back together, if they have become subject to bad influences. The boot camp system, with its emphasis on short term shock treatment involving discipline and physical exercise, it not for everyone. If you are a parent considering a placement at a boot camp for your child, you will need to be very careful in making sure that there is no clash of type involved. Some boys are far better suited to gentler types of therapy.
It is vitally important to realize that a boot camp for teens is not a punishment center. Although many of the children who go there will have been in some degree of trouble with the law, the purpose of the camp is not retribution. The camps, although they operate with strict discipline, and can be very harsh, are always aiming to instil new positive behavior patterns into the children in their care. The accent is always on positive rehabilitation.
A boot camp for teenagers is not something you can rush into . Even if you have taken the momentous and very difficult choice that you need to send your child away from home to get the treatment they need, it is still going to be another difficult choice to make as to where to send them. You need to be absolutely sure that your child is of the right type to respond to the intense discipline and rigorous routine of a boot camp.
Take time out to consider the alternatives as well. Boot camp school is by no means the only option. There are many schools for troubled teens which operate out in the wilderness, offering the child a chance to rebuild their troubled life in a natural environment. These programs have a very high success rate, and some of their principles should be being brought into mainstream education. Another good option can be Christian schools. If your child has any sense of spiritual belief, a Christian school can give them the supportive environment they need in which to grow. It takes time to heal most teenage problems, and the calm, forgiving atmosphere of a Christian school will be the perfect environment for many to allow this to happen.
This calm atmosphere is obviously far removed from that of boot camp schools, and it is vital not to put the wrong children in to the wrong environment. The results will be good for all types of residential camp if you can match the right children to the right camps. With a boot camp, you are looking for children who have just been led into bad behavior by a group of alleged friends, and who can soon be shaken out of this.
The discipline of the boot camp is designed to allow the child to form new behavior patterns which will serve them well in the real world. The human being is an organism with a malleable mind, and if that mind is molded in a constructive direction, these behavior patterns will stay with the child even after they have been replaced into the old home environment. It is the repeated practice of positive constructive behaviors which is of the greatest benefit to boot camp kids.
