Why Boot Camps For Boys And Wilderness Camps Can Change The Lives Of Troubled Boys

Troubled boys are becoming ever more common in the Western world today. Often, it is the expectations of parents and those in the family or peer group which is the root cause of the problem. At other times, it can be the influence of the wrong group of friends which leads a boy astray. There are also times when school itself can seem overwhelming, especially to a boy who is giving his best but not quite managing to satisfy his demanding teachers.

Before you can take any action to help a troubled boy, you first have to identify the problem, or even know that the problem exists. Many boys are very good at putting a brave face on things, and trying to act as though everything is normal, when in reality it is anything but.

It is recommended that all parents join some kind of support group, where they can work together to spot any signs which may show that a boy is troubled. One of the most common tell tale signs is when the family seems somehow distant, when the boy is distancing his family either by remaining alone for a disproportionate amount of time, or by spending all of his time out with other boys.

It can be extremely difficult for parents to know when to apply discipline and when not to, and how to apply it when it is necessary. It is certainly important to make sure that any rules are laid down clearly, and that the consequences of breaching these rules is well understood. If the rules are not clearly laid down, you can expect most boys to be constantly trying to take advantage. Even worse is the situation where parents punish boys who have not the slightest idea that they are doing wrong. This is a certain way to invoke resentment.

In extreme situations, a troubled boy will need to be given help outside of routine school and home. If the boy has become involved with a gang of other boys, and has only just started to misbehave, then sending him to one of the many boot camps for boys may give him the jolt he needs.

These camps are set up so that the boy receives strict discipline and orders for a short period of time, and then has to go back into the normal outside world. There are some troubled boys who would not respond to this at all well, so you have to be very careful when and how it is applied. Many sensitive boys will be more harmed by the extreme discipline, and will be much better suited by an alternative type of camp.

One of the most successful types of camp is a wilderness camp. These will suit any boy who is inherently a decent human being, but is suffering from problems which are affecting his behavior. By removing him from the problem environment, you give his natural character and personality a chance to shine through. The success figures of this type of camp is quite phenomenal, and only go to prove that putting people into their natural environment can be extremely powerful. It can be a great tactic to use with troubled boys.
